The Alton Non Expert Trial
was introduced in the 1970s’ as a pukka Open to Centre Trial held at a great venue but focusing on Intermediate, Novice and Beginner riders, it originally was called The Wick Hill Cup after the landowner and venue that hosted it.
Pictured is Wobblie Will riding in the Wick Hill Cup at Wick Hill in the late 70s’, showing the spirit of the Wick Hill Cup.
Note the beginners riding kit of the time including the obligatory NCB wellies. Photo by Keith Davies’s dad, John.
This is how the Wick Hill Cup started back in the seventies - a proper trial for novices.

1. Thanks for organising a good days sport today, quite tough but enjoyable with no resulting damage to man or bike!

Regards Chris Hurworth. (C class, 250 BSA)

2. Big thanks to all the people who helped out yesterday. Mick laid out a good trial. A most enjoyable day, my ride could be summed up by that old school report saying " could do better"

Cheers Trev. (B class, Scorpa 250)

3. Excellent trial got the sections just about right considering the 'dodgey' conditions. Well enjoyed by me and Paul Pearson.

Pete Haines. (C class, Beta 250)
